How to read flow data
Flows are simply net creations and redemptions: when more investors buy ETF shares than sell them, the fund creates new shares and buys more bitcoin (net inflows); when selling dominates, shares are redeemed and bitcoin is sold (net outflows). A negative weekly number means outflows, not a loss in value.
Weekly totals are more informative than single-day figures. One large creation or redemption order can swing a daily number, so watch the trend across several weeks before drawing conclusions about investor sentiment.
Different flow trackers compile their numbers differently — settlement timing, data vendors, and classification of transfers all vary. Treat figures from different sources as directional rather than exact, and cross-check before citing.
